Elective Programs at MUHAS

The Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences offers elective periods of study to Medical, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Dental students in their clinical years for both Undergraduate and Postgraduate programs. Students can choose to do clerkship rotations, community health rotations, or research projects for a minimum of 2 weeks (10 working days).

You can rotate in more than one department during your stay, depending on your interests and available time.

Elective Types

Clinical Clerkship

Gain hands-on clinical experience by rotating through different departments and specialties. Work alongside experienced clinicians in hospital settings, participate in ward rounds, assist in procedures, and learn patient management in real-world healthcare environments.

Community Health Rotation

Participate in community-based healthcare initiatives, public health campaigns, and preventive medicine programs. Understand healthcare delivery in resource-limited settings and gain insights into population health management and community engagement.

Research Project

Engage in medical and health sciences research under the guidance of experienced faculty. Develop research skills, contribute to ongoing studies, or initiate your own project aligned with your interests and the university's research priorities.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Undergraduate or postgraduate students from universities outside MUHAS
  • Students pursuing studies in Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, or Dentistry
  • Undergraduate students must be in their clinical rotation years
  • Minimum duration of 2 weeks (10 working days)
  • Reference letter from Dean/Principal of home institution
