Academic Programmes

The School of Medicine currently hosts eight undergraduate and thirty postgraduate degree programmes. A more recent development has been the initiation of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes, a welcome product of the diverse research collaborations within the School. The current programmes of the School are as listed below:

Undergraduate Degree Programmes:

Doctor of Medicine (five year programme with an additional one year internship)
Six Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences (BMLS) degree programmes including general (BMLS general) and specialized programmes, all conducted over three years.

The specialized degree programmes include:
Clinical Chemistry (BMLS Clin. Chem)
Haematology and Blood Transfusion (BMLS Haem. BT)
Histo-technology (BMLS Histotech.)
Microbiology and Immunology (BMLS Micro. Immunol.)
Parasitology and Entomology (BMLS Para. Entomol.) with School of Public Health and Social Sciences
Bachelor of Science in Radiation Therapy Technology (BSc RTT)

Postgraduate Degree Programmes:

Six M.Sc. Graduate programmes in: Anatomy; Biochemistry; Clinical Pharmacology; Clinical Psychology; Microbiology and Immunology & Physiology

Sixteen Master of Medicine Programmes in: Anesthesiology; Anatomical Pathology; Clinical Oncology; Emergency Medicine; Haematology and Blood Transfusion; Internal Medicine; Microbiology and Immunology; Obstetrics and Gynaecology; Ophthalmology; Orthopaedics and Traumatology; Otorhinolaryngology; Paediatrics and Child Health; Psychiatry; Radiology; Surgery & Urology

Eight Master of Science in Super-specialty Programmes including: Cardiology; Hematology and Blood Transfusion; Medical Gastroenterology and Hepatology; Nephrology; Neurology; Neurosurgery; Respiratory Medicine & Surgical Gastroenterology and Hepatology

In addition to formal degree programmes, the school offers a rich clinical teaching experience to elective (less than one audit year attachment) or occasional (one audit year attachment) undergraduate and postgraduate students.
